About

Datamash envisions an Internet centric world where reports, static web pages and information silos are enriched by Datamash Mashets as we named widgets with interconnection ability (mashups). Active internet users create and share Mashets simplifying and extending their Internet presence and connecting professional and social networks.

The genesis of Datamash technology begins in 2004 in Moscow when Sasha Sergeev and Andrey Dementyev conceived the power behind a tool that lets everyday users connect data elements between different applications so that shared information is always fresh. Several architectures were considered and some trials conducted before the outline of the current products and services emerged. The two founded Sundera, Inc. in 2004 and assigned the IP associated with their technology. They put up a website featuring a plugin for Microsoft Excel in early 2006.

Sergeev met Leonard Backus at a networking event in Silicon Valley in the summer of 2006. As a recovering VP Sales coming off is five year stint leading a global direct sales team, he quickly grasped how the Sundera technology could be applied to simplify the life of workgroup managers. Sergeev relocated to Silicon Valley and the two begin exploring ways to commercialize Sundera technology.

In January 2007, Backus formed Datamash Corp and acquired the assets of Sundera, Inc. Sergeev and Dementyev joined Datamash as founders. Recognizing that there was a much bigger opportunity than connecting documents, the technical team revised the architecture to incorporate a highly scalable client server form that allowed the creation of the Mashet products. Datamash put up its first beta website in late 2007.

Today, the site is still in Beta, but now supports Mashets that connect data from widgets, blogs, Microsoft office documents and web pages. There are hundreds of Mashets and Mashet templates on the site and the number of users is growing steadily.

Datamash has been self funded to date and is now actively seeking venture capital funding. There is a great to do to before Mashets become household names and part of millions of internet users daily lives. A few visionary investors are key to getting there.

Leonard Backus, CEO, is a startup guy. Datamash is his eighth startup and the one with the greatest potential. He has a BSEE from the University of Washington and an MSEE from the University of Southern California, but he quickly gravitated from engineering to technical sales. He has led global sales teams selling both consumer and enterprise software, computers, consumer electronics, and IP licensing. Two of the startups he was with did IPOs in the ‘90s and one was acquired by a Fortune 500 company.

Alexander Sergeev (Sasha), CTO, is also a startup guy, but he did it in Russia, where it is a lot harder. He has a BS from Moscow PhysTech. He was a founder of such technology projects as Baikonur (web application server with visual development), Taxxi Communicator (early predecessor of AJAX), Epsylon Games (very popular entertainment platform for set top box users), VideoMost (videoconferencing through narrow bandwidth), Epsylon Video (democratic video on demand service, early predecessor of YouTube), Krona (multidimentional hypercube for analytics).

Andrey Dementyev, Chief Technical Architect, was a technical architect in every project with Sasha Sergeev. MS. MGIEE. He brings very deep technical expertise, knowledge and experience of creating unique, successful, heavy-load scalable Internet systems.
